Marriott Brings Back MegaBonus Starting in February

Marriott’s regular, somewhat lucrative free night promotion returns in February (registration required by March 15).

  • Every two stays between February 1 and April 30 earns a free night
  • Can earn up to 3 free nights
  • Free nights are good for hotels up to ‘category 4’

These are great in that two cheap one-night stays earns a free night on top of the regular points.

But the value of those free nights are capped, since you can’t redeem them at the better Marriott properties.

They generate the most outsized return at hotels which are extremely seasonal — expensive at some times of year, deserted and cheap at others, and the way demand averages they’re category 4 and yet pricey in-season. South Florida has a few of these, for instance.

I’ve used mine in the past at places like the SkyCity Marriott near the Hong Kong airport and the Marriott Boca Raton.

There are often different versions of the MegaBonus offer that some elites are targeted for, an option to do points or have award nights redeemable at category 5 properties for instance, but this is – at least – the general offer. Yours may vary slightly when you log in, I would love to hear from anyone that’s received a different offer.

  1. I also have 25,000 points after 15 nights and another 15,000 points after the 20th night.

I never get the free night offers…

  2. I guess the solution is to book away from Marriott for a year or so and see if their magic promotion chooser picks us again for the 2-stays-earns-1-night variant again….

  3. I got the same as Bryce. I was able to switch to the 3 free night promotion instead of points for the Fall MegaBonus. I remember some people couldn’t switch, but I had no problem.

  4. Free night offer here for Cat 1-4

I’m a nobody, with no Marriott stay regularly (2 this year, on personal leisure)

  5. Arghh. Can’t they sweeten this to cat 5?

There are a couple decent cat 4’s. But nothing truly aspirational. I suppose they are good for a few airport stays which are parts of aspirational trips. Otherwise, humph.

  6. It is only true that “there are a couple decent cat 4’s. but nothing truly aspirational” if you’re looking at US properties. There are countless JW and Ren properties in Asia at Cat 4 and Cat 3 (that easily go for $150/$200 a night) where these certificates could be used.
