3000/5000 American Miles for an Avis Rental Extended

Last month I wrote about one of the stronger rental car bonuses I’ve seen:

Through August 31, you can earn 3000 American miles on a 1-day rental or 5000 miles on a 3-day rental with Avis. Use coupon code MUAA035 and provide your American Airlines frequent flyer number with the reservation.

A 1-day rental with Budget earns 1000 miles and a 3-day Budget rental yields 3000 miles. Use coupon code MUAZ025 along with your American AAdvantage account when making the reservation.

Based on my experience with past offers of this sort, you do not need to use thediscount codes that go along with this offer, which may or may not provide a decent rental rate, in order to earn the miles.

Rentals must be from participating airport locations in the U.S. or Canada, andbegin by August 31 in order to be eligible. The offer details page does not specify which airport locations are not participating.

And don’t forget you have a ton of options to get cash back or points for your Avis rentals as well.

This offer has been extended through September 15.

According to Frequently Flying, Avis is dropping their ‘We Try Harder’ slogan (which of course used to be “We’re #2, We Try Harder!”) and trying to position themselves with a non-sensical “It’s Your Space” aimed at busienss travelers. The slogan doesn’t affect whether I rent with Avis, but this mileage promo makes me look forward to doing so…

  1. My local airport started charging a $10 contract fee (LGB) and the airport by work (LAX) does too. 🙁

In years past, I would rent from LGB when there were promos (like 5K/7.5K DL Budget promos, etc) when I could get a 2 day weekend rental for around $20ai with coupons and collect 7.5K DL miles. I know that DL “pesos” are even worth 7.5K DL miles for spending $20.

With the $10 contract fee plus other fees, the base rate has to be pretty cheap in order for me to rent from Avis. I am a Hertz guy and with the local airport charging the $10 contract fee, I rent from the local Hertz local edition.

For regular Avis renters, this is a GREAT promo!!

If one has a local airport where the base rate is low & has very little fixed taxes/fees (like contract fees, facility fees, etc that are fixed dollar amounts instead of percentage amounts), this is also a decent promo.

    Bottom line: Nice promo!!

  2. Thanks, I originally was going to be able to take advantage becuase I was going on a trip today, but we had to push it to tomorrow and the coupon was no longer valid. I was able to add it back in now!

  3. OMG, today was to be my last day of 14 consecutive days of renting from Avis because of this promo. Now that it’s been extended, I might have to bite the bullet and keep on renting. the 3050 miles for each rental is hard to pass up.

  4. Great promo and the extension happens to be fortuitous for me. But what would be the logic for extending it only 15 days at the last minute?

  5. I was outta luck before, and still may be — I’m hoping that my rental from 9/13 through 9/16 will qualify.

I’m paying less than $20 more than my prior Dollar reservation, so it’s not that big of a risk.

  6. I rented 2 rentals for the last two days. I used the AA codes and coupon for CLE,but only recieved 50 miles each time. Anyone think I made a error or the system (Avis) made the error?

  7. I have the same question as above, should the qualifying rental BEGIN or COMPLETE by Sept 15? Thanks!

  8. I had been waiting for some miles to post from rentals on Sept 1 and 2 and finally got 50 miles to post per rental. I called Aadvantage to ask about the 3000 bonus miles per rental and when they (and I) looked for the promotion on the AA website, only the current offer came up, which began yesterday and offers a lot less points.

I have no proof, like a screenshot, showing that the promotion was extended til Sept 15.

Does anyone have a screen shot or other proof that shows this offer was supposed to be, or is still, good til Sept 15?

I hate to think that my drives to LAX were only to earn 50 AA points.
