Who Else Is Giving Away Starpoints?

The Points Guy compiled a list of the different blogs that are handing out Starwood Starpoints.

If you’re reading this blog presumably you know that I’m one of the folks doing so, I’m giving away a total of 60,000 points (30,000 to each of two winners). If you entered yesterday remember to enter again today (and tomorrow, etc) until the contest ends this coming Tuesday — you can enter once every 24 hours.

I think it’s interesting to speculate on the reasons why different blogs were chosen by American Express to offer up points, on the different amount of points being given away by each, and on the reasons why some blogs have more entries than others. This last presumably has to do with size of readership, and with how much effort is required to enter.

JohnnyJet wants you to caption a photo. There are only four entries as I write this.

Interestingly, One Mile at a Time is also giving away 50,000 Starpoints, it looks like there are 771 comments.

I believe both JohnnyJet and One Mile at a Time have ongoing relationships with Starwood or American Express this year, that might explain why they were offered 50,000 points instead of 30,000?

I’m giving out two sets of 30,000 points, which I asked to do, 30,000 is the logical number since that matches the limited-time signup bonus on the personal and business co-branded Starwood American Express cards.

The Points Guy, like me, is giving away 2 sets of 30,000 point bonuses. So I would guess that Brian similarly advocated for 2 sets of points for his readers, a big thumbs up across the Blog-iverse for that!

The Vacation Gals are giving away 50,000 points, they have 770 comments to that thread, I have heard about the site frequently though haven’t ever read it, I assume it’s pretty widely trafficked based on the number of entries they’ve gotten so far.

I’ve never heard of Vagabondish before but they’re giving away 50,000 points and there’s just a handful of entries so far.

GoGreenTravel, another blog that’s new to me, is giving away 30,000 points and with just 83 comments so far.

That’s 7 blogs, and I think I had heard that there would be 10 giving out Starpoints, so if you know who the other 3 are I’d love to know too!

Update: Loyalty Traveler is giving away Starwood points as well.

Update 2: Thanks for the link in the comments it seems a blog called Ordinary Traveler is giving away 30,000 Starpoints, there are less than 20 comments showing there so far, you have to do something with Facebook and Pinterest to win.

  1. JohnnyJet’s caption contest is obviously the way to go — IF you can get your entry to stick. There were four visible when Gary wrote this, now there are only three (mine doesn’t seem to have taken, and I’m sure many others will have tried in the past few hours).

  2. Hi guys,

I am a newbie and started to travel a lot and to read all bigger websites and blogs for frequent travellers.

How do you guys get all these miles and points which you
are willing to give away now? Whats your suggestion for a newbie to learn quickly which loyalty programs are really helpful and it is worth it to join?

Could you also recommend a subscription service with travel insider tips which has to be paid anually?

Thanks for a little help and advice.

    Cheers,

    Eric

P.S: I am adressing to the author of this blog also.
I think he is very experienced in travelling and how
to deal with all loyalty programs. Maybe he can give
some basic advice on how to start to accumulate miles
    and benefit from all offers.

    Thank you.
