Through December 31, Delta is offering members with a Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express a 100% bonus on purchased miles when they use that card to buy the miles. It’s described as “an extra 2,000 miles for every 2,000 miles purchased“ so presumably has to be taken advantage of in 2000 mile increments (in fact, I think that Delta only sells miles in 2000 mile increments).
There’s no reference in the terms and conditions to a cap on the number of miles that can be purchased while receiving the 100% bonus, it appears that you can take full advantage of the maximum per-year miles purchase of 60,000 while earning a 60,000 mile bonus.
Delta made a similar offer to everyone back in August and September, and of course through the end of November if you’re going to make purchases of 250,000 miles or more than anyone can get this bonus via the Delta Incentives program. Though of course folks with a Delta Amex don’t need to buy a quarter million miles or more in order to get this pricing on miles.
If interested, one could presumably still get the card (30,000 miles after $500 in spend within 3 months, no fee the first year, free checked bag and priority boarding) in time to take advantage of the offer. [I hadn’t mentioned this card offer before because it’s not normally one that I carry myself, but this deal could make it useful for some, and in full disclosure I do receive a referral credit if you sign up]
As folks know, I’m not a huge fan of the Skymiles program overall but it happens to be the best for the two toughest awards – Australia and French Polynesia – and I’ve just written an extensive guide on how to make the most of these miles. Living in DC, for instance, there’s amazing award availability on Air France pretty much every day.
