It’s Back! 50% Bonus on First-Time Transfers from American Express to Delta, Plus 25,000 Elite Qualifying Miles on Transfers of 100,000 Points or More

Via this Milepoint thread, Delta’s offer of a 50% bonus on transfers from American Express Membership Rewards for first time transfers is back through September 30. Transfers of 100,000 miles or more will generate 25,000 elite qualifying (status, not redeemable) miles as well.

Registration is required, and the terms and conditions explicitly say that the bonus cannot be combined with other offers. They apparently learned their lesson after the recent error that had them awarding 80% bonuses…

Presumably it won’t stack with the current (up to) 40% bonus on transfers from Amex to Delta. But folks who don’t qualify for the 50% offer, because they’ve transferred points from Membership Rewards to Delta Skymiles in the past, can use this one instead.

  1. The problem I have with Delta is that I can never seem to be able to use their miles…I am talking the low economy level ones….

  2. Who are these people who have 100,000 membership rewards points lying around? I use my card pretty heavily every week for business travel spending, but with most cards being roughly a point per dollar, that’s a TON of spending to get that many points. I just don’t understand how some people are able to always have thousands of membership rewards points lying around for these transfers…I understand maybe once every year or 18 months, but beyond that…how much money are people spending?

  3. @ Andrew, I believe for most people, that was the 100k signup bonus from Amex Plat

  4. Plenty of people have earn rates much faster than burn rates. Particularly those with corporated cards.

  5. 50K MR points = 75K SkyPesos (with the 50% bonus first time transfer + wait time for bonus to post separately)

75K SkyPesos + 2K Amex Delta credit card spend = 77 K SkyPesos = 7 x $ 100 Amex gift card (redeem rate for SkyPesos members with an Amex Delta credit card) = $700

Not bad? Any flaw in this plan?

  6. Andrew–I got 150K by getting the Premier Rewards Card (75K after emailing them 5x) and the Gold Card (20K) and the BUSINESS Gold MR Card (50K after a 10K spend).

  7. @TH only flaw in the plan is that 50k Amex points = 75k BA miles = 1-way FIRST CLASS Cathay Pacific to, say, BALI. i.e. $700 is a pretty weak redemption for 50k Amex.

  8. @Ozaer–I got 150K by getting the Premier Rewards Card (75K after emailing them 5x) – Is this offer still around? Thx.
