If you wouldn’t mind…

This blog has been a labor of love since 2002.  I know there’s a pretty dedicated fan base, a hard core group that I’ve helped to earn millions of frequent flyer miles, great upgrades, amazing discounts.  I love you all, I really do.

Perhaps the group that reads this blog will never reach beyond the hardcore.  I don’t get more than 100,000 unique visitors in a month (I really don’t know how many folks read me via RSS feed).  I’ll never be one of the ‘really popular’ blogs because I suppose I don’t write for a general audience.  I don’t do the “5 Ways to Get Upgraded on Your Next Flight” pieces, where nearly everything in it is either (a) wrong or (b) too vague to be useful.

Once in awhile I get 15 seconds of fame, like appearing on the front page of cnn.com over a weekend.  And I think Richard Quest will be airing an interview with me sometime later this month.  Occasionally that’s fun.

And yet I have dreams…

Consider nominating this blog for the 2010 Bloggies. If not readers, perhas recognition would be nice!

Deep down I’m not much of a self-promoter. I don’t pitch my posts to other bloggers. I don’t advertise. I just write what I write, hopefully folks find it useful, and deep down I just believe that useful blogs will gain traffic. And yet I’m still pretty small potatos even after all these years….

  1. Reluctantly done!

I don’t want you to get too mainstream, and everyone learn all your valuable advice, cuz then it wouldn’t be as valuable. I check your site daily!

  2. Gary, it’s not the size of the audience, it’s the loyalty that matters. Always go for quality over quantity.

  3. Keep up the fine work. I stayed at the Westin Diplomat resort(great place) and ordered a W bed based on your recommendation. I enjoy your honest approach. Thanks!

  4. I think one of the unfortunate things about the blogosphere is that somebody like me who enjoys reading your clueful blog posts, but who doesn’t blog himself, has no real outlet to help promote your useful blog….

  5. You got it, and it’s done. We love you back Gary! You have a very devoted following, and we think you’re the best.

  6. Gary: I hope the Richard Quest deal works for you. His program interviewed me last spring and chose to go with another story.

You are a legend in the blogging travel world.

    Rick
